California Republicans sued in federal court to block a new U.S. House map that voters approved under Proposition 50, a Newsom-backed plan meant to help Democrats flip up to five seats next year. Filed by the Dhillon Law Group in the Central District of California, the complaint alleges mapmakers illegally used race to favor Hispanic voters, violating the 14th and 15th Amendments. Newsom's office dismissed the challenge with "Good luck, losers." A three-judge panel could consider a temporary order before Dec. 19, when candidates may begin collecting signatures for 2026 filings.
